The event was presided by Ottawa-based, Public Relations and Radio personality, Sarah Onyango. The Guest of Honour was our own Nairobi-born, Shamira Madhany; Director of the Postsecondary Accountability Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. In her keynote address, Ms Madhany traced an emotional journey on her family’s arrival and settling down in Ontario in the mid-seventies.  She further pointed out the journey’s impact on her educational and professional careers.  Ms Madhany proposed a top up to the scholarships using her personal funds.

The Canada-Kenya Chamber of Commerce through their President Anne Nesbith, followed on Ms Madhany’s generosity and offered to support the KCOWF Scholarship Fund by generating another scholarship.  The final round of applause was given to Thomas Nzyimi Karibu Movers of Toronto who offered to avail yet another scholarship in support of KCOWF Scholarship Fund.
Jimmy and Ligia Van Rosi of Toronto provided some tantalizing entertainment, and so did Disc Jockey Catherine Wakesho Kilelu of Ottawa.

The Hamilton Swahili class provided an entertaining rendition of the Youth perspective of life in Canada. DJ Solo summed up the evening with original spins from Kenya and the international scene.
Once again the occasion was graced by the presence of the Kenyan High Commissioner to Canada and Ambassador to Cuba, H.E. Prof. Judith Mbula Bahemuka and other members of the mission in Ottawa.
It was a great occasion for all Kenyans living on the Greater Toronto Area to come together in the spirit of unity to celebrate this memorable day in Kenya’s history and reflect back to the day that our beloved country attained self governance.
