President's Farewell Report - December, 2003

My fellow KCO members its is indeed a great honor for me to stand here today to give you my final report as the outgoing President of our organization. From my days working in the steering committee through my term as the President it has been an experience that will remain with me for a long time. Opening of the Kenya Airways Office in Toronto – June 14, 2002

On Thursday June 6th I attended a product presentation for the opening of the Kenya Airways office in Toronto. The presentation took place at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto, 955 Bay St. (at the corner of Wellesley). Among those present were members of the Kenyan High Commission led by His Excellency Joash Green, a delegation from Kenya Airways in Nairobi led by commercial director Mr. Peter Woodrow, staff from the Kenya Airways new office led by Alicia Laumann, Kenya Tourist Board representatives, travel agents, KCO representatives, members of the press, etc. Read More


Report On Ted Majaliwa Kombo’s Visit May 26, 2002

The never-ending Tiomin fiasco remains in the news, both in Kenya and overseas. In the past few weeks we have heard major contradictory statements from ministers in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. J.J. Kamotho, in charge of environment, says the project will not proceed while his counterpart Jackson Kalweo, in charge of mining, thinks the project should go ahead. Read More

Madaraka Day Speech 2002

Mabibi na Mabwana vijana wazalendo, yangu ni kuwakaribisha kwa niaba ya Wakenya hapa mkoani Ontario katika sharehe yetu kuu ya Madaraka. As we all celebrate this joyous occasion, I would like to first and foremost reflect on why we are all here celebrating Madaraka day. This year, Madaraka day for those of us living in Ontario has an added special meaning. As much as we are celebrating the gaining of internal self-rule of our country Kenya, this is the first time that we have gathered under the umbrella of KCO to Madaraka day. Read More


Jamhuri Day 2001 Maana ya Uhuru (The Meaning of Independence)

Mr. President, newly elected board members of the Kenyan Community in Ontario (KCO), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.

I am pleased to join fellow Kenyans and Kenyanists tonight on this auspicious occasion of commemorating our country's independence. It is also a historic moment for Kenyans in Ontario as this is also the day of the formal launch of KCO, as an organization.

Let's all applaud the steering committee for making the formation of KCO a reality. To Onyango Oloo, Sam Ndirangu, Joyce Misoi, Leonard Wandili, Iqbal Mulani, Herold Oluoch, Mrs. Muriuki and many others that have worked in the founding efforts, this is a moment to be proud of. Sincerely accept my word of appreciation.

Further, let's also congratulate the newly elected board for winning their much-deserved positions. The winning team is the best we could come up with. There is no doubt that they will do their best and carry us all to heights uncharted before. Read More


Report - Roundtable on Health Care System – April 10, 2001

Today I attended a roundtable on the future of the Canadian Health Care System hosted by Jean Augustine, M.P. Etobicoke-Lakeshore. This meeting is in response to the Commission headed by Roy Romanow that was established by the Prime Minister in April 2001 to look in into the future of Canadian Health Care System. The meeting was held at the LAMP, which located at 185 Fifth Street in Toronto. Among those present were Dr. Carolyn Bennett M.P.

St Paul's, representatives from various organization and other concerned citizens. In her opening remarks, Ms Augustine emphasized how important the meeting was and how several MPs had lobbied to have an audience with Roy Romanow so that they could tell him what they thought about the Health Care System. This meeting was as such designed to help concerned citizens and various organizations communicate with the Commission through her. At the meeting, we had a chance to review the interim report from the Romanow Commission. The report has come up with four main scenarios for the future of health care in Canada. Read More
